So literally a week after 9/11 my cousin invited me to fly out to Dayton to go to the USAF Museum. I said yes, and we boarded a USAir Express puddle jumper for the quick flight from PGH to Dayton. These pics were taken on a shitty !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! camera, and have been enhanced after scanning to make them less dark.

This series is making me nostalgic for the time when we could go to places and do things

Yeah, I’m going to post pics from my various trips until either:
I run out
I get bored
The lockdown ends

We were there a couple of years ago and the only thing they had parked outside was the YC-125. Funky plane, to be sure.
The new fourth hangar is amazing. If you’re interested, my pics are here .
ETA: Just looked through my pics and there is a C-17 parked back behind the YC-125.

I so want to go back for another visit. The museum completed a major expansion in ‘16, and I’d really love to see what’s changed and what I missed on this trip.

I used to drive past a B-47 every morning on my way to work.

That plane is now sitting outside of the restoration hangar on base. There’s now a C-17, C-130, A-10 and an EC-135 outside.

My company stores a piece of equipment in a hangar where the museum stores some of their planes that are waiting to be restored.
I’ve submitted a request to be allowed to snap some pictures the next time I’m in there.

Oh, man, that would be a scoop. I’d love to see that.

Great photos, I miss those days when they had so many unrestored aircraft just parked outside the museum that you could make a trip and be satisfied without even going inside! I’ve got some pics from 2018 I should post...
